Secret Beach Rd., Kilauea, Kauai, HI 96754
Weather: 9
Although Secret Beach is located on the "rainy side" of the island of Kauai, it get's an 8.5 because of the warmth and potential of consistent warm weather year round. The thing about Kauai is that no matter what ,the forecast says sunny or cloudy or rainy, you could have them all on any given day. Kauai is just like that. We had 3 days of sun while there when we went in May and the forecast was calling for showers.
Acceptance/Legality: 9
No beach in Hawaii is technically legally nude. But like all nude beaches, they are difficult or a long walk to get to, so it's just accepted because of it's remote location. This beach is around 1 mile and you start to see nudity about half way to the end. The beach has several cliff corners to walk around and that means it was after the 2nd or 3rd corner that we started to see partial to full nudity. It was amazing to us, how few people there were at all on such a beautiful beach. We went on a Friday and a Sunday in May, both times seeing very few people nude or clothed.
Trail/Access: 7
Compared to Black's Beach in San Diego, This trail is a breeze. We did give it a 7 because of its length and incline, but it's really an easy trail for any one who can go up or down hill. The trail is about 8-12 min and then around 25 min walk to the end. There is only one trail leading to the beach except for private staircases from some homes on top of the cliffs. Parking is on a dirt road in a rural residential area, so try to get there early to get a nice spot close to the trail.
Privacy: 8
The tree coverage alone would give it a high rating, but Secret beach is so long and so deep with sand that there is really no issue with privacy even if there were loads of people.
When in doubt on any beach, place a wind screen or umbrella down to block someones view.

Nude Etiquette: 9
The atmosphere in Hawaii islands is really so different than on the main land. We found people cordial, polite and considerate in giving space. In other words, there weren't a lot (if any that we could see) creeps. This made for a very relaxing time.
"Creeps or Pervs" are the guys that stare or position themselves to to another person to get a good view. They also may touch themselves inappropriately. They can give a vibe even if they are doing nothing observably pervy.

Sand Comfort: 8.5
Some beaches can have rocks, lava or shells as the land that meets the water. Most people prefer soft sand. It's easy to walk in and fun to lay in. Secret beach has really soft golden sand. It's a pleasure to spend the day on this sort of beach.
Water Temp: 8.5
Kauai is known for its consistent warm waters. You can enjoy 75-80+ degree water depending on the time of the year. It was clear and beautiful... Like swimming in a bath tub.
As you can see the turtles love it, too!

Shade Option: 9
You can always bring your own umbrella to any beach, but this beach offers trees for natural shade. That's a good thing, too, because the first day we sat out by the waves and on a island, winds can suddenly gust out of no where.
If an umbrella is needed for your spot, please try a deadman anchor to help stabilize it from blowing away. (This is done by taking a bag and filling it with sand and tying it to the umbrella pole with a rope. Then placing the sand bag into the wind to hold the umbrella. It also helps to angle the umbrella into the wind with the bag to maximize the stability.

Family Friendly Waves: 5
Laying on the sand naked is nice, but add jumping into warm, safe waters and the experience more than doubles! This beach is around a mile long and in most spots the waves break right on the shore. This is fine for strong swimmers because the crystal clear aqua blue waters are just a few feet past that. This is not the best for young children, though.
There are some calmer waves closer to the end and a little pool in the lava with sand in it, as an option.

Snorkling: 9
Most of the ocean is just sand by the shore line, so to see the really good reefs you have to swim out a ways. The best snorkeling is at the end by the lighthouse cliff. There you will see crystal clear and loads of sea life.
Wild Life Safety: 7.5
This section is here because sometimes an area can have wild life that is dangerous or endangered and needs some attention. That we saw, this beach has sand crabs, turtles, eels, monk seals, tropical fish, coral, birds and mosquitos.
*The seals are to be left alone and will bite if protecting a pup.
*Please don't touch coral. It dies when being touched/stepped on.
*Though we didn't see any, sharks are always a possibility.
*Mosquitos are not super prevalent, but this is the wet side of the island, so come prepared at night fall.

Sunset Location: 9
Here is a picture from the end of the beach looking back up the beach. It was May so the sun should move a bit more North (to the right a bit in this picture) during the summer. There is no land blocking the view even though its not directly in front of you on the horizon from the beach (as a comparison, San Diego gets a 10 because the beach faces the West).
