Uakea Rd., Hana, Maui, HI 96713
Weather: 8
It rains a lot on this side of the island. A storm was coming in when we found this beach (as it's a little difficult to find) and we had to drive the road to Hana home to Kihe in the dark and rain, which I don't suggest anyone does! The road is long and curvy and a bit treacherous in the rain. We will heed our local friend's warning next time and stay the night or split the trip; half on one side of the island and half on the other. The rain did not deter us from its awe inspiring beauty, though. Even though we gave it an 84 in score, Red Sand Beach holds a special place in my heart. It really is a wonderful place to visit if you have the chance.
Acceptance: 4
No beach in Hawaii is technically legally nude. But like all nude beaches, they are difficult or a long walk to get to, so it's just accepted because of it's remote location. Our research says that this beach is frequently shared by the clothed and the textile-challenged both.
Trail/Access: 7
The trail head is hard to find. You actually have to go through a field and then just wade through the bushes till you come upon a trail that looks like the upper left photo. Then follow the path along side the cliffs and around a corner. It's a narrow path so don't bring too much in the way of chairs and coolers, etc. Once you come around the corner, be prepared to see a sight. It still touches me to this day the discovery of such a natural wonder. Easy but take care.
Privacy: 6
No one was here the day we found it, but if there were, You wouldn't have much privacy. The beach is really small. The reason the number is higher than expected is because we took into consideration the fact that is it deserted most of the time. Especially if the weather isn't ideal. We didn't care... It's Maui! Water's always warm.
Nude Etiquette: 8
There wasn't anyone there the day we were. Fingers crossed that it is a high number. We are confident that it is. From what we've experienced, the Hawaiian Islands tend to be cordial in this respect.
Sand: 6
The sand is course and hard to walk on, but a really amazing color! A sight to see with your own eyes.
Water Temp: 8
Maui water temperatures are pretty consistent year round ranging from 75-80+ so even with the rain storm coming, the water was nice to get into.
Shade Options: 8
As you can see, there are a few trees, but I think the most shade you'll get is from the cliff. The cove is crescent shaped and steep so it can shade you in the later part of the day.
Family Friendly Waves: 10
If you can safely get your kids here, then the water is perfect for them. Tide in or out, the waves crash on the rocks and it filters the water into the cove.
In this picture you can clearly see the rocks that stop all the big waves from entering the pool.

Snorkling: 6
Not much to see because of the pool's size. A little. Great for a beginner because of the gentleness of the waves.
Wild Life Safty: 9
There didn't seem to be much here. Just birds, mosquitos, and some tropical fish. Beware of naked butts. They are rare but a sight to see!
Sunset Location: 2
Because it faces East, you can't quite see the sun go down, but you do get to see the awesome cloud formations light up!
