Larson Beach Rd., Kilauea, Kauai, HI 96754
Weather: 9

Although Larsen's Beach is located on the "rainy side" of the island of Kauai, it get's an 9 because of the warmth and potential of consistent warm weather year round. The thing about Kauai is that no matter what the forecast says, sunny or cloudy or rainy, you could have them all on any given day. Kauai is just like that. We had 3 days of sun while there when we went in May and the forecast was calling for showers.
Acceptance/Legality: 9

No beach in Hawaii is technically legally nude. But like all nude beaches, they are difficult or a long walk to get to, so it's just accepted because of it's remote location. This beach is around 1 mile and you start to see nudity right away. The beach has several little "bays" to walk around. It was amazing to us, how few people there were at all on such a beautiful beach. Several people were camping. We went on a Saturday in May and still saw very few people nude or clothed.
Trail/Access: 8
Super easy and not far from the sand. Maybe 4-5min hike down a narrow but easy trail. Then you can pretty much be naked anywhere on the sand. We explored and walked all the way to the end (about a 35min walk) and found a little cove all to ourselves. Because of the terrain and how the beach juts in and out, there were many of these, so no need to walk that far.
Privacy: 9

The tree coverage alone would give it a high rating, but Larsen's beach is so long and has so many little "coves" that there is really no issue with privacy even if there were loads of people. Just a few biologists checking on the seals and a few campers in the tree close to the trail. This made for a very relaxing time and a "cove" all to ourselves.
When in doubt on any beach, place a wind screen or umbrella down to block someones view or in this case, go into the trees.

Nude Etiquette: 10

The atmosphere in Hawaii islands is really so different than on the main land. We found people cordial, polite and considerate in giving space. In other words, there weren't any creeps.
"Creeps or Pervs" are the guys that stare or position themselves to to another person to get a good view. They also may touch themselves inappropriately. They can give a vibe even if they are doing nothing observably pervy.

Sand: 4

Bring sand socks if you have them. Or wear socks inside your sandals. The sand is course and has a lot of broken shells and coral in it so its a rough go bare foot. You need some sort of shoes if you go very far as there are lava rocks to climb over or pine trees to hike through to go to the next "cove." My feet hurt after this long hike both ways.
Water Temp: 9

Kauai is known for its consistent warm waters. You can enjoy 75-80+ degree water depending on the time of the year. It was clear and beautiful... Like swimming in a bath tub.
Shade Option: 9

There are trees all over this beach. There are vistas where you can hike up in the tree to get a better view, low trees with big leaves to hide under or tall pines to get a gentile shade. No need for an umbrella here.
Family Friendly Waves: 5

The waves break pretty far away as the reef is long and close to the surface. This beach is not very deep with sand and the reef starts almost as soon as the water hits the sand. There are some little coves where it's deeper enough to wade in, but you have to walk a while. Fun for kids to play in the trees but swimming is scarce here.

Snorkling: 8
Snorkeling is good but not everywhere. The reef comes right up to the sand in most places so the water can be less than one foot deep is some places. Other "coves" have a little deeper water, but in general, this is not the best place to snorkel.

Wilf Life Safty: 5

This section is here because sometimes an area can have wild life that is dangerous or endangered and needs some attention. That we saw, this beach has sand crabs, turtles, eels, monk seals, tropical fish, coral, birds and mosquitos.
*The seals are to be left alone and will bite if protecting a pup.
*The Turtles lay their eggs on this beach at night. Look for their tracks and trenches in the sand.
*Please don't touch coral. It dies when being touched/stepped on.
*Though we didn't see any, sharks are always a possibility.
*Mosquitos are not super prevalent, but this is the wet side of the island, so come prepared at night fall.

Sunset Location: 7

There are a lot of in's and out's on this beach and it faces just enough to the North that you can see very little sunset clearly. Still beautiful light and glimpses of the sun depending on where you choose to sit.
